The Battle of the Broken Spoons, is just that; a battle. Its a story about a group of artists that got beat up at school, went home and grabbed their 8mm's, then started shooting everything in sight. The Battle of the Broken Spoons is a documentary about a group of miscreants and their struggles to succeed, scraping by with little or no budgets while producing several shorts and feature-length films, and the harsh reality of how difficult it is to be recognized in the film industry. They are an eclectic crew ranging from ex-cons to real-life circus clowns, gang members to members of the gay community; a most unique mob of misfits that met at The Art Institute of Colorado, and found that they had much more in common than drinking problems. The Battle, could be considered a ballad, as it showcases the beauty of art and friendship and the harsh reality of what happens when responsibility - kids, wives, addiction, legal troubles, or basically real life comes knocking at the door. Ultimately, The Broken Spoons are forced to disband. At it's core, The Battle of the Broken Spoons, is about the bonds that are forged when you combine like-minded individuals and give them toys to play with. This ballad needs to be heard, and if you really listen you'll know that they aren't finished kicking and screaming.
